What Memorial Day Means To Me

Today, the Beer Circle will be taking the day off from our hectic & time consuming research on craft beer in America. Of course we will be holding a massive BBQ at our world headquarters and, of course, craft beer will be consumed. But that isn’t what Memorial Day is all about. You have heard much about why we need to remember Memorial Day and those that fought and died for our country. I’m going to tell you what Memorial Day means to me.

While living in England I took the opportunity to visit Normandy. Because of my impeccable timing (dumb luck, really) the family and I went just a few days before the anniversary of D-day. As you approached the American Cemetery just above Omaha Beach you could almost feel the solemnness of the place. We listened to some stories told both about soldiers died in the battle and other stories told by the soldiers themselves. Wow! I was in tears a few times. Walking through the actual cemetery helped even more to drive the soldiers’ sacrifice home. Lastly we walked along Omaha Beach and Ponte du Hoc, a German artillery position where the U.S. Rangers scaled 200 vertical feet to capture. America’s greatest generation, definitely.

So please put away politics for today. Whether we’re right or left, up or down we have the freedoms to do what we do, believe what we believe in because of those that fought and died for us. Help us today and lift a craft beer for those that made the ultimate sacrifice and are no longer with us.

Thank you from the Beer Circle.

For the  love of beer.

Sincerely,

Russ, Greg, Paige, Jeff, Garrett, and Bob

Simply put, Bob is a beer lover. He goes out of his way to try new beers whenever he can find them. The love of trying new beers had resulted in a beer label collection of over 1400. When it comes down to it, Bob is a hop head. He loves IPAs (including double and black). Stouts are a close second. His tweet reviews on @nova_beer are simple and approachable.
