DC Brau Brewing Company Barrel Aged Rarities

DC Brau Brewing Company Barrel Aged Rarities

As part of their inaugural Barrel Aged Beauties event last Wednesday Churchkey in DC had a number of DC Brau Brewing Company’s offerings aged in various barrels graciously provided by Catoctin Creek from just up north in Loudon County. I’ve only ever had a few beers from the District’s first packaging brewery since 1956, but was excited to see how well their beers would hold up in barrels from a local distillery. It boiled down … Read entire article »

SAVOR: Firestone Walker Beer Dinner at Churchkey

SAVOR: Firestone Walker Beer Dinner at Churchkey

I was very excited when I saw that Churchkey was kicking off SAVOR Beer Week with a dinner featuring beers from Firestone Walker Brewing Company. We’ve already taken a stab at a few of their beers on this site (Paige with Union Jack and Greg with 14th and 15th Anniversary) and I personally haven’t found a beer brewed by them that I didn’t like. All I knew going into the event was what beers would … Read entire article »

Tröegs “Floated” Java Head Stout

While on our Eastern PA Beer Tour this last weekend a number of beers stand out, but only one was truly unique. A “beer float.” I saw when Tröegs‘ new brewery and tasting room opened that “floating” their Scratch #57 Chocolate Raspberry Weizenbock was an option, I must say I was jealous. Upon learning that you could do this with any beer they had on tap, I was ecstatic. After the Nugget Nectar, Java Head … Read entire article »

Beer Dinner: Bell’s Brewery at RFD Washington

Beer Dinner: Bell’s Brewery at RFD Washington

On the evening of January 10th, RFD in Washington offered up a dinner my friends and I could not refuse: a 5 course dinner paired with Bell’s Brewery beers including Black Note. We thought the $60 price tag seemed a bit steep up front, but we went for it anyway. RFD stands for Regional Food and Drink and is located a block away from the Verizon Center, near Washington DC’s Chinatown. It’s the “sister bar” of … Read entire article »

Selin’s Grove Brewing Company – Selinsgrove, PA

Selin’s Grove Brewing Company – Selinsgrove, PA

After hanging out at Max’s for their Belgian Beer Fest and on my way back up to Penn State I finally got the chance to stop in at Selin’s Grove Brewing Company. The brewery was started in 1996 and is housed in an early 18th century mansion previously owned by the third Governor of Pennsylvania: Simon Snyder, for whom Snyder County, PA (the county in which Selinsgrove is located) is named. They even grow some … Read entire article »
