Selin’s Grove Phoenix Kriek

The last time I visited Selin’s Grove Brewing Company I was disappointed to find that the Framboise had kicked before I got in. Luckily, while trying out Troegs’ Splinter Gold in Harrisburg, I read on Selin’s Grove Facebook page that something “tart and in my goblet” was recently tapped. After an opportune phone call, I learned that the oft sought after Phoenix Kriek was fresh and ready to go. I jumped at the chance to … Read entire article »

Novice Homebrewer: Batch #3- Straw Bear-E Wheat

As I previously posted, my third batch was a Cooper’s wheat beer kit with the addition of fresh strawberries. I can’t say that wheat beers usually impress me, but strawberry wheat beers were also some of the earliest beers I drank in my transition into craft beer. I think it’s possible to make a great one, and I was wondering how mine would turn out. Miller Brewing Company MGD Light 64 Lemonade

My motto is “the Sweeter, the Better!” You can imagine how excited I was when I saw 12 bottles of this in a friend’s house. Apparently they use it for punishment when … Read entire article »

Capitol City Brewing Company Cherry Blossom Ale

When Capitol City Brewing Company opened in 1992, it marked the first time since prohibition that a brewpub operated in Washington D.C. The brewery steeps itself in history and symbolism of the United States, placing Lady Liberty atop all its menus. I got a little gem in my inbox from them (placed below) earlier this week and thought, “what better way to get into the Cherry Blossom, and Spring, spirit than with a beer?” For those of you … Read entire article »

New Glarus Apple Ale

Though I grew up in Illinois, I have an extensive amount of family that lives in Wisconsin. Lucky for me, Wisconsin really produces some fantastic beer, and my family enables me drinking it by stocking the fridge every time I visit. I picked up the New Glarus Apple Ale over Christmas, out of a combination of curiosity and habit. Habit is a function of always wanting to try the offerings of their Unplugged series, and … Read entire article »
