Dogfish Head-Sierra Nevada Life and Limb Rhizing Bines in the new IPA glass

Dogfish Head-Sierra Nevada Life and Limb Rhizing Bines in the new IPA glass

I came home this week to a white box sitting on my front porch. I wasn’t expecting anything, so I was extremely intrigued. Noticing that the return label said Dogfish Head, my excitement grew rapidly, and I tore open the package to find the following: One bottle of the Dogfish Head-Sierra Nevada Life and Limb collaboration Rhizing Bines Two new IPA glasses created by Sierra Nevada and Dogfish Head, each one bearing the mark of one of … Read entire article »

Unlikely Pairings: Weather

Unlikely Pairings: Weather

For my next installment of “Unlikely Pairings”, I was initially inspired by the events surrounding Superstorm/Hurricane Sandy. Up in State College, Monday afternoon classes were canceled. Being a rarity, and that the area was only a minor impact from the storm, many students raided the local bottle shops for Hurricane 40 oz. malt liquor bottles. So, I’ve decided to scan my tasting history for what I think would be the best beer to have in the … Read entire article »

Unlikely Pairings: Music

Unlikely Pairings: Music

You’ve probably seen plenty of recommended pairings with food when you read a beer description, but do we have to stop there? In this post, I begin a new column called “Unlikely Pairings.” This goes beyond the conventional food/beer pairing and inspects the less common couplings with you brew. Music almost always is around you when enjoying a drink; whether you’re in the bar, at a party, maybe even as background noise while you write tasting … Read entire article »

Dogfish Head – Heaven & Hell

Dogfish Head – Heaven & Hell

Dogifish Head’s Heaven & Hell: The Ultimate Black and Tan or, as I call it, “Goodnight, Irene.” Heaven & Hell is a mixture of equal parts 120 Minute IPA and World Wide Stout. With each beer clocking in at 18% ABV, enjoying more than one is pretty much out of the question. Heaven & Hell must be experienced at least once in any beer drinker’s lifetime. My first time was at the Dogfish Head Restaurant in … Read entire article »

Dogfish Dash Weekend

Dogfish Dash Weekend

The sixth Dogfish Dash was held on September 30, 2012. The race consists of both a 5k and a 10k, with all proceeds going to the Delaware chapter of the Nature Conservancy. The Dash is by far the biggest source of funds for the conservancy. Each year the Dogfish Dash beats fundraising expectations. The 2012 edition of the race raised $38,500 which, considering that the combined registration was limited to 1900 runners and the 5k … Read entire article »

Dogfish Head Brewings & Eats

Dogfish Head Brewings & Eats

I recently went to Ocean City, Maryland, for a family vacation. I couldn’t let the opportunity of visiting the Dogfish Head Brewings & Eats restaurant in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, pass, so I dragged the family 45 minutes up Coastal Highway.I have visited the restaurant twice previously and have never been disappointed. Even if you take beer out of  the equation it is a great place to visit. The food is combination of beach fare (fish tacos, fish … Read entire article »

Novice Homebrewer- Batch #5 India Pale Ale Review

Novice Homebrewer- Batch #5 India Pale Ale Review

As you may have read previously, I brewed an India Pale Ale as batch #5 for my company’s golf outing. I started with the Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA recipe and made a few alterations. The brewing and secondary dry hopping was rather successful, so this post examines the most important aspect of homebrewing: the taste. Lincoln Abbey Lincoln IPA Beer Stats Style: India Pale Ale Serving: Bottle Size: 12oz ABV: 6.00% BA Score: n/a RB Score: n/a … Read entire article »

Novice Homebrewer Batch #5- India Pale Ale

Novice Homebrewer Batch #5- India Pale Ale

My work approached me and asked if I would be interested in brewing a couple of batches for our company golf outing. At this point, any opportunity I have to brew a beer, I will accept. Everyone at work thoroughly enjoyed my strawberry wheat, so I agreed to recreate that beer for the outing, and told them I would come up with another recipe. I finally settled on making an India Pale Ale for the golf … Read entire article »

SAVOR: Better from the Barrel: Sierra Nevada / Dogfish Head Life & Limb 2 at Churchkey

SAVOR: Better from the Barrel: Sierra Nevada / Dogfish Head Life & Limb 2 at Churchkey

Sierra Nevada and Dogfish Head are two breweries that we here at The Beer Circle are familiar with, and you should be too. I went to Churchkey for the second straight night to check out Sierra Nevada’s tap-takeover, featuring no less than 55 Sierra Nevada beers on-tap at one time. Slightly overwhelmed, I grabbed a glass of their collaboration with Dogfish Head: Life & Limb (the second running of the beer), and it’s bourbon barrel … Read entire article »

Cellaring Beer

Cellaring Beer

Previously I posted about my beer label collection and my quest to try beers from all over the world. That quest put a cramp on my desire to start cellaring beer for later years.  However, last year I decided to make the effort because I want to experience first hand how individual beers change over time. Some  changes will be good, but I know that some will be bad. But where to start? What are the best … Read entire article »
