Brass Rail Beverage & Deli

Author’s Note: This is the example post I submitted for the writer application.

When looking for a distributor or bottle shop with good selection in Central PA, Brass Rail is a name you may come across. Nestled along route 322 in Campbelltown, it’s an easy access from places such as Hershey and Elizabethtown, but people such as myself will trek from Lancaster or Harrisburg.

Brass Rail is a hybrid of a beer distributor and a bottle shop. This is mainly due to PA’s liquor law classification, so technically the distributor is separate from the deli. I personally first came across the location after reading rave reviews on Beer Advocate and was able to get a good deal on a case of Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale. More recently, though, I make visits to their deli for rare beers or growler fills. The deli has a great variety of single bottles for mix-a-six, reasonably priced six-packs, and 7 taps for growler fills or dine-in. During one of my early visits, Cisco Cordero, manager of the deli, introduced me to their $35 VIP membership. Here are some of the benefits it includes:

•    Minimum 10% discount on all purchases, free menu item on birthday
•    Emails of tap list updates
•    VIP alerts for rare beers (i.e. Founders KBS, Bells Hopslam, Victory Dark Intrigue)
•    Yearly renewal discounts (20% off 1st renewal, 40% off 2nd renewal….free the 5th year!)
•    Brass Rail Beverage pint glass

My VIP Membership card, pint glass, and initial haul of Dark Intrigue and 120 Minute IPA

With the flexibility of having a distributor and bottle shop in one place, both with great selection, I find it one of the better options in the area. Signing up for the VIP program is a great option for anyone local who likes to attend their events and get informed when a hard-to-find brew arrives. Have you been to Brass Rail, what did you think? What is your go-to bottle shop in Central PA?
