We here at The Beer Circle like to think that we drink a lot of good beer. With that in mind, we decided to vote internally on what our favorite new beers of 2013 were. The criteria was simple: you had to have the beer to vote on it and the beer had to make its debut in 2013. The list ended up being, predictably, focused on Pennsylvania.

Probably the most sought after Pennsylvania-released beer since prohibition ended, this Black Magick variant was the clear favorite of the first Voodoo Barrel Room Collection release.

This beer was a hit on-tap at the first Voodoo release, and was subsequently placed in Laird’s Apple Brandy barrels for the second release. Big and boozy, the only reason it finished second was because Pappy van Winkle Black Magick was so good.

This one was one of the best surprises of 2013, when Russ and Paige got to drink a full growler at a tailgate. Pizza Boy accidentally filled a growler when something else was ordered…and didn’t want it to go to waste.

Playing on the success of Cigar City’s Hunahpu, Perennial put its chili stout in bourbon barrels for us all to enjoy.

We apparently like beers that are barrel aged, sour, or were brewed with chili peppers. Here’s to hoping 2014 brings us a similar list of outstanding brews.
