Bob Pack

Simply put, Bob is a beer lover. He goes out of his way to try new beers whenever he can find them. The love of trying new beers had resulted in a beer label collection of over 1400. When it comes down to it, Bob is a hop head. He loves IPAs (including double and black). Stouts are a close second. His tweet reviews on @nova_beer are simple and approachable. Let him know what you think. Find Bob Pack on Google Plus

Blue Moon – Going Beyond the Orange

Blue Moon – Going Beyond the Orange

We all have had a Blue Moon with a slice of orange, even if we don’t want to admit it. In the past, I’ve added ice cream to stouts, eggnog to stouts, sorbet to IPAs, and orange juice to IPAs so I wondered what Blue Moon would taste like if I added something other than a slice of orange. Step 1: Assemble the ingredients Blue Moon Tasting Glasses Pineapple, blueberries, onion, potato Yes…onion and potato! Step 2: Added the ingredients to … Read entire article »

Voodoo Brewery Barrel Room Collection Release This Weekend!

Ladies and Gentlemen this is not a drill. I repeat, Voodoo Brewery is set to release their Barrel Room Collection this weekend. Wait, you may ask, isn’t there basketball to watch?! Adroit Theory Brewing – B/A/Y/S Imperial Stout (Ghost 4)

Adroit Theory Brewing – B/A/Y/S Imperial Stout (Ghost 4)

About a month ago I reviewed the Ghost 3 version B/A/Y/S Russian Imperial Stout from Adroit Theory Brewing Company. At the beginning of March, owner Mark Osborne gave me a tour of Adroit Theory’s brewery in Purcellville, VA. Mark has some very interesting and exciting plans for the brewery over the coming year or two. I am very excited because I only live a few miles away. As we were leaving, Mark gave me a bottle … Read entire article »

Beer-mosa

Beer-mosa

Welcome to the next step in Beer Mixology. Previously, I’ve experiment with Beer Floats and Beer Nog to various degrees of success. Today I’ll be discussing my experience with Beer-mosas: a mixture of orange juice and a decent IPA. Ingredients A 50-50 mix of  Alpine Beer Company‘s Pure Hoppiness and your favorite orange juice Appearance The original beer poured a deep copper with a 2-finger thick white head that lasted a long time. Feeling a little like … Read entire article »

Beer and Food Pairing

Beer and Food Pairing

Pairing beer and food together isn’t easy yet it also isn’t magic. I recently attended a Winter Craft Brew and Beer Pairing with some friends and I wasn’t disappointed. The host was faced with a mixed bag of beer fans ranging from those without much knowledge of craft beer to those hard-core craft beer fans that only drink the mass-market beer to earn untappd badges. For a successful event I believe you must follow these … Read entire article »

Barrels, Barrels, Everywhere

Barrels, Barrels, Everywhere

Hopefully, Samuel Taylor Coleridge isn’t rolling over in his grave because of my liberal use of a line from Rime of the Ancient Mariner. I love most barrel-aged beers because of the flavors and aromas that are imparted to the beer. Many breweries these days have a barrel-aging program. Besides the beer itself there is an added bonus: an over abundance of used barrels. I had been wanting to get a used barrel to put in … Read entire article »

Adroit Theory Brewing B/A/Y/S Imperial Stout

Adroit Theory Brewing B/A/Y/S Imperial Stout

Adroit Theory Brewing Company, a new brewery to the Northern Virginia scene, is set to open its doors to the public in June of 2013 in Purcellville, VA. I have been lucky enough to volunteer as a taste tester as they continue to refine their recipes. I knew it is hard work but someone had to step up and do it. Adroit Theory’s aim is to extend beyond the ordinary into “esoteric beers” that take a … Read entire article »
